Salem Dems vow to primary Rep Seth Moulton for objecting to men competing in women’s sports

Salem Democratic City Committee chair Liz Bradt compared Moulton to a Nazi for making that observation. She said “several” of the Salem Dems are looking to oppose Moulton in his next primary, The Boston Globe reported. He has served his constituents since 2015 in a Democratic stronghold that encompasses the historic city so associated with witchcraft lore.

Moulton made his comments about boys in girls sports during an interview, saying the Democrats lost the presidency, the Senate and the House because the party is “spend[ing] way too much time trying not to offend anyone.” He went further, saying he wouldn’t want his daughters competing against “male or formerly male athletes.”

The congressman at first limited his comments to criticizing the Democrats for being out of touch with many Americans while they promote their social policies “rather than being brutally honest about the challenges many Americans face,” he said.

“I have two little girls, I don't want them getting run over on a playing field by a male or formerly male athlete, but as a Democrat, I'm supposed to be afraid to say that.”

Bradt insisted Moulton’s comments are “egregious” and “transphobic” even as she admits she doesn’t represent the larger Democratic committee in Salem. “He keeps doing these kind of egregious things … and these comments are basically using his daughters as political fodder, in my view, to make a transphobic comment about people on sports teams,” Bradt told the Globe.

Mouton spokesperson Sydney Simon said Moulton has been a friend of the LGBTQ community and should not be labeled a “Nazi cooperator” by Bradt. “I don't put a lot of credence in the word of someone who refers to a fellow Democrat as a Nazi cooperator,” Simon said.
