Vaccinated people will no longer be required to wear a mask soon at Starbucks, along with many other major US retailers on the heels of new CDC guidelines.
Starbucks joins other major US companies in deciding to allow maskless customers in their locations country-wide, as long as state and/or local laws still prohibit it, and as long as the customers are fully vaccinated.
"Facial coverings will be optional for vaccinated customers beginning Monday, May 17, unless local regulations require them by law", wrote Starbucks on its website on Friday May 14, although it did go on to say that public restrooms will "generally remain temporary closed" still. Enhanced cleaning measures will also continue to be in full effect for the foreseeable future.
The popular chain of coffee shops also went on to announce that it will give people in their employ an extra two hours of pay for each dose of the vaccine they receive.
Supermarket chain Trader Joe's and price club giant Costco also announced similar updates to their store policies on Saturday or Sunday.
Retail behemoth Walmart also stated in a letter to their employees that "vaccinated customers and members are welcome to shop without a mask," and that signage will be updated "to reflect this." Once again Walmart added the caveat that "there may also be local conditions, regulatory changes or laws that affect our guidance."
