Still no suspect in Toronto kids’ birthday party shooting, 5-year-old girl remains in critical condition
On Saturday evening, shots rang out in the middle of an apartment complex in the Rexdale area of northwestern Toronto. Three children wound up with gunshot wounds, aged 11, five and one respectively.
The children were apparently all celebrating a birthday outdoors for another one-year-old. The five-year-old girl who was wounded remains in hospital in critical condition.
Superintendent Ron Taverner during a press conference on Sunday said:
"I’ve been a police officer for a number of years and this is one of the most disturbing scenes when you see young people indiscriminately shot, it’s disgusting."
"As much as this is a horrific, horrific situation, it could have been worse. There could be three dead children."
A neighbour likewise stated, "This is a tragedy …this is very heartbreaking, it could have been any one of us – it could have been myself," According to CityNews Toronto.
"To know that you were here, you seen the atmosphere and know that 80 per cent of the people that were here were children. You're heartless, you're cold, bottom line."
At this point, police are working on identifying the suspects and detaining them and bringing them to justice for this heinous crime. However, as of yet, nobody has come forward to help identify any potential suspect.
As such, they ask that anybody who has any relevant information come forward anonymously and contact the Toronto Police.
