BREAKING: Trudeau finance minister BUSTED—WE Charity covered $41,000 for family vacation
Finance Minister Bill Morneau testified to the Standing Committee on Finance on Tuesday that he just wrote the WE Charity a cheque for $41,366 to repay expenses from family vacations to Kenya and Ecuador to learn more about the WE Charity.
Finance Minister Bill Morneau testified to the Standing Committee on Finance on Tuesday that he just wrote the WE Charity a cheque for $41,366 to repay expenses from family vacations to Kenya and Ecuador to learn more about the WE Charity.
"In the summer of 2017, my wife and my daughter ... traveled to Kenya to learn about WE school projects. Later that same year, I traveled with my family to Ecuador to see and participate in WE's humanitarian work there," the finance minister said.
"I expected and always had intended to pay the full cost of these trips, and it was my responsibility to make sure that was done," he continued.
Morneau said that he and his family did a review of their finances, and they had found that he had previously paid $52,000 in expenses towards the trips. Morneau continued to say, though, that to his "surprise," he was unable to locate receipts for the WE trips.
