REVEALED: Trudeau’s Liberals let MP Tabbara run despite 2015 sexual harassment investigation
It’s been revealed that the Trudeau Liberals permitted disgraced MP Marwan Tabbara to run for election in 2019 despite having previously investigated him for sexual harassment.
It has come to light that the Trudeau Liberals permitted disgraced MP Marwan Tabbara to run for election in 2019 despite having previously investigated him for sexual harassment.
CBC ran an exclusive report on Friday that detailed a party investigation into Tabbara that involved allegations of non-consensual touching and sexual comments in relation to a female staffer. The allegations are from 2015.
An anonymous source told CBC that there were risks of blacklisting within the Liberal party if word spread about the investigation, despite confirming that "some of the allegations were substantiated."

Prime Minister Justin Trudeau claims to have a zero-tolerance policy on workplace sexual misconduct. However, Tabbara was still permitted to run after a six month approval process. CBC's sources report that this is an unusually long time for that process.
Tabarra is still working as an MP despite having been charged with assault, break and enter and harassment on April 10th. Police had previously defended not alerting the public to his arrest, citing that he did not pose a significant risk to the public.
CBC reports that "Claims about inappropriate behaviour involving Tabbara and a female staffer were reported to the Liberal party multiple times over the past five years, according to a source. Senior decision makers in both the Trudeau government and the Liberal Party knew about the claims. One of the individuals who was aware of the allegations is now working at the Prime Minister's office."
Senior party communications director Braeden Caley offered the following to CBC's investigative journalists:
"In line with the Respectful Workplace policy, the party does not confirm or comment on the specifics of complaints out of respect for the confidentiality, privacy and safety of those involved. Based on extensive consultation with experts and with the aim of ensuring that individuals always feel safe coming forward with their stories, it is not the Liberal Party's place to breach that confidentiality."
