Trump administration secures release of two hostages from Yemen

The hostages in question, Sandra Loli and Mikael Gidada, were being held by Iranian-allied Houthi rebels. They have been released, along with the earthly remains of their companion, Bilal Fateen, who unfortunately passed away in captivity.

According to Fox News, Pompeo said, "We join all Americans in welcoming their newly regained freedom." Loli and Gidada will soon be flying back to US soil.

The hostages were exchanged for 250 Houthis who were being held in nearby Oman and had received medical treatment there. They have now been flown back to Sanaa, the capital of Yemen.

According to the UN, another massive prisoner exchange deal is to be finalized on Friday, involving some 1,081 prisoners on both sides of the war.

Yemen has been involved in a bloody civil war since 2014 since the Houthi rebels stormed Sanaa and captured it, ousting the standing government. An international coalition of pro-government troops has been fighting back since March of 2015.
