WATCH: Matt Walsh slams AOC for refusing funds to help her ‘struggling’ abuela

The host of Matt Walsh Show, created a GoFundMe last week to help AOC's abuela in response to the New York representative posting on Twitter the squalid conditions her abuela lives in in Puerto Rico following Hurricane Maria. She used the post to blame former President Trump for blocking aid to the island, with many twitter users claiming that she was using her abuela to "score political points."

Walsh set up the GoFundMe, donating $499 of his own money towards they cause, which is the cost of a monthly lease on the Tesla Model 3 AOC bought. Many others followed suit, with the fundraiser raising just over $104,000 before it was shut down by someone in her family.

"Thank you for giving me the chance to talk about my philanthropy which has been a big passion of mine since last week," Walsh told Carlson.

Walsh slammed AOC for posting her grandmother's supposed squalid state of living while she herself is a young, wealthy congresswoman who possesses the means to assist her abuela.

"She claimed that her grandmother's been living in this dilapidated shack I guess for four years, since the hurricane, and she's a wealthy single woman who has two apartments and a Tesla that she just recently bought apparently," Walsh said.

"She, for whatever reason, refused to help her own grandmother and so, we said 'alright, we’ll get together and we’ll raise the money.' We raised $100,000 in 10 hours," Walsh continued.

"We probably could've raised $1 million if they'd let the fundraiser continue, but someone in abuela's family shut down the fundraiser about 10 hours into it and said that she doesn’t want the money."

Walsh questioned the reasoning behind why the Ocasio-Cortez family refused the funds, calling the refusal "scandalous."

"Now, this raises a lot of questions like, for example, does this mean that abuela really wasn’t in the dire straits as it was presented to us? Or would AOC prefer for her grandmother to live in that state, suffering, rather than to take money from us? Walsh questioned. "I think either way, it’s sort of scandalous I think on AOC’s part."

"Well it's a little bit weird that it was left to you to help Ocasio-Cortez's grandmother," Carlson commented. He called Walsh a "caped crusader for good," and a "white night" for taking on the fundraiser.

"Shouldn't AOC be a little ashamed of this?" Carlson asked.

Walsh joked that if anyone wants to nominate him for a Nobel Peace Prize, "I will accept it, it doesn’t mean anything anyways, you might as well give it to me."

"But it is interesting that she would leave her grandmother like that. She said 'well I’m focused on the systemic problems, and the government was supposed to solve this problem,' well it does show that actually you don’t have to wait around for the system to solve every problem. Sometimes free individuals can just get together and…" said Walsh before switching gears.

"This is a problem we could’ve solved not just for abuela, but they could’ve taken the money, fixed the ceiling, bought her some furniture she clearly needs, and then they could've taken the rest of the money and helped the neighbors," Walsh stated. "They could’ve helped the whole community with these funds."

"But they preferred not to do that." He continued.

"I'm starting to think that helping people isn’t the point for Ocasio-Cortez," Carlson concluded.
