“Preloaded stimulus is another one of your government’s cute little catchphrases, the kind you roll out when you don’t want Canadians to catch on to what you’re actually trying to do.”
Senator Leo Housakos questioned the language used by Liberal Finance Minister Chrystia Freeland, who referred to Canadian citizens' savings as "pre-loaded stimulus" and asked for "ideas on how the government can act to help unlock" this money.

View on XHousakos asked Government Leader Sen. Marc Gold: "Your government hasn't tabled a budget in two years. You did recently deliver a fall economic statement in which Finance Minister Chrystia Freeland referred to preloaded stimulus no less than five times in that statement, as a means to economic recovery. Preloaded stimulus is another one of your government's cute little catchphrases, the kind you roll out when you don't want Canadians to catch on to what you're actually trying to do.
"Preloaded stimulus is the savings, the extra cash that hard working Canadians tuck away for a rainy day... Last week, in a TV interview, Minister Freeland referred to unlocking these savings, saying and I quote her, 'maybe it happens by itself'"
Leo asked Sen. Gold to promise that the Trudeau Liberals would not try to access the savings of Canadians, "which they have already paid taxes on."
Sen. Gold said that the Liberals have taken "extraordinary steps" to ensure Canadians can weather the economic crisis, saying that Canadians are in a "decent position" compared to "so many others in the world."
"The government remains committed to helping Canadians... In a fiscally responsible way."
