Julia Letlow, whose husband Luke died of COVID four months ago shortly after winning a seat in Congress, has now won a special election on Saturday and will take his place.
Letlow, who was backed by former-president Trump, said on Saturday after hearing confirmation that she had won the seat:
"This is an incredible moment, and it is truly hard to put into words. What was born out of the terrible tragedy of losing my husband, Luke, has become my mission in his honor to carry the torch and serve the good people of Louisiana’s 5th District."
According to Just The News, Letlow ran against 11 other candidates but beat them easily, just as her late husband previously had done in Dec. 2020 before tragically dying at the age of 41 from complications due to the virus.
Letlow's victory is also somewhat strategic, as the Democrats hold a very narrow majority in the House of Representatives, and now their margin is that much narrower, which may well be felt at future dates as bills come before the House.
