On Tuesday, police discovered the body of a 20-year-old woman lying in a Victoria, Texas creek. Amanda Stevenson had been missing since November 19.
The find came one week after a suspect in her death, 45-year-old Uber driver and former teacher Kevin Bennetsen, killed himself in front of officers after being pulled over for questioning.
According to the Victoria County Sheriff's Department, around 11:30 am on Tuesday officers received a report of a human body at the 2500 block of Fordyce Road near Patriot Park.
Upon arrival, the body was identified as Stevenson's. Police have not released a cause of death, however, an autopsy has been ordered.
As the Daily Mail reports, shortly after she went missing, Bennetsen was identified as a suspect by her family, who said he was the last person to see her before she died.
The pair, who were said to drive around together often, had allegedly gone off-roading before Stevenson went missing.
On November 22, police searched Bennetsen's home and the area of Yoakum where he was known to spend time. Later that day, the father of two and former Army and Air Force veteran was pulled over by police and questioned about the incident, however before officers could obtain any information, he shot himself in the head with a pistol.
Bennetsen was rushed to the hospital, but passed away a short time later as a result of the self-inflicted injury. In the days since his death, his wife has been cooperating with the investigation.
Dozens of people both in law enforcement and the community took part in the search for Stevenson. Following the news that she had died, members of the "Find Amanda Stevenson" Facebook group asked for donations for her family to "make sure they have what they need for services, memorial candlelight vigil and anything else that comes up while they work to lay sweet Amanda to rest."
