The 34-year-old man, Brian Mathew Wittmann of Madison, North Carolina, was sentenced to four years and three months in prison along with 10 years of a monitored release, according to the Department of Justice.
Wittmann allegedly planned to meet the young girl at a predetermined location in West Virginia's Nicholas County and told investigators that he had traveled there from North Carolina. According to prosecutors, he messaged the girl via Instagram, attempted to receive her phone number, and sent her sexually explicit messages and photos.
A search of Wittman's vehicle conducted by authorities turned up condoms, blankets, a pillow and a morning-after pill, reported WDTV 5.
A press release from The US Attorney's Office of the Southern District of West Virginia stated that consequences faced by Wittman include a conviction for traveling in interstate commerce to engage in illicit sexual conduct with a minor and a requirement that he enters the sex offender registry.
