Oklahoma woman killed in murder suicide after outing her husband as pedophile on TikTok

A TikTok influencer from Oklahoma was shot and killed by her husband in an apparent murder-suicide after she publicly accused him of being a pedophile.

43-year-old Sara Gilson was allegedly fatally shot by her husband, Jeremiah “Shawn” Duffey, on July 23 in Oklahoma. The shooting came after Gilson posted a TikTok on July 11 participating in the viral “Netflix documentary” trend in which users pretend they are being interviewed for a documentary about their life.

“Preparing for when Netflix drops a documentary about my soon to be ex husband who I just found out is a pedophile,” Gilson wrote in the video.

In the caption, she added, “I wish I was joking.”

The clip gained over 10 million views. According to a report by The Daily Mail, the allegations stem from a protective order filed on June 10 by the mother of a 15-year-old girl, alleging Duffey had been caught kissing and inappropriately touching her daughter. The teen was a member of a youth basketball team he coached.

Following those allegations, Gilson filed an emergency protective order against Duffey, alleging he possessed a firearm, had threatened suicide, and had “gone on the run.”

Court records also show Gilson filed two protective orders against Duffey in 2021, though those petitions were later dismissed after she failed to appear in court.

A judge subsequently ordered Duffey to leave the couple’s home and remain at least 100 yards away from Gilson. In the days before her death, Gilson continued posting on social media, including one video captioned, “Everyone talks about romantic love, but no one talks about how female friendships literally save your life.”

A GoFundMe was set up for Gilson’s two children, stating that, “Her sudden and heartbreaking loss has left an entire community grieving, but the greatest loss is felt by her two precious children, who must now face life without their loving mother.”
