"After careful consideration of Oracle's current business needs, we have made the decision to eliminate your role as part of a broader organizational change."
Oracle has just started telling its employees that the company will be cutting thousands of jobs. The software maker is also dealing with a dropping stock price that is linked to high spending on AI infrastructure.
"After careful consideration of Oracle's current business needs, we have made the decision to eliminate your role as part of a broader organizational change," an email that was sent to employees at 6 am said, per Business Insider. "As a result, today is your last working day. We are grateful for your dedication, hard work, and the impact you have made during your time with us. After signing your termination paperwork, you will be eligible to receive a severance package subject to the terms and conditions of the severance plan.”
According to analysts at TD Cowen, the company could be laying off up to 30,000 people, but the exact number has not been disclosed.
The company has been facing pressure from investors about the amount of debt it is taking on in order to build out the AI tech infrastructure as well as shrinking cash flow. The company employed 162,000 people as of May 2025. The stock price for Oracle has dropped 25 percent this year along with many other tech stocks, but Oracle has dropped more than others.
In January, the company said that it would raise $50 billion in debt and equity. Last month, however, executives said there were no more plans to raise debt for the year.
Other companies have also been cutting jobs as AI investment and infrastructure are being built up. Amazon cut around 30,000 jobs in the later part of last year, mostly of those in the corporate portion of the business. Meta cut hundreds of workers last week after reports indicated that the social media network would be slashing its workforce by 20 percent.
