Senator Rod Wyden of Oregon has claimed that the Department of Homeland Security went to Portland "to incite violence." Noem has been paying close attention to conditions in Portland where Antifa agitators and militants have been aggressive in their attempt to disrupt federal law enforcement.

"Kristi Noem is cosplaying as a public official. In reality, she's been sent by Trump to incite violence," Wyden said. "Don't tar and feather her as Speaker Johnson suggested for Governor Newsom. The best response to her playacting as cop? Ignore her and keep supporting our community."

Noem was traveling to Portland to tour the ICE facilty. The area around the facility has been under siege since June when Antifa militants began protesting outside, getting in the way of law enforcement vehicles and personnel.

Noem reportedly met with Oregon Gov. Tina Kotek at the airport, but that meeting was off the record.

Wyden recently smeared reporter Katie Daviscourt, claiming she was a "right-wing influencer," after she posted a photo from the roof of the Portland ICE facility. Daviscourt was reporting from the roof after having been assaulted by agitators on the ground. A militant smashed her in the face with a flagpole before fleeing. Officers caught the agitator, but declined to make an arrest.

The City of Portland issued a statement in response to the visit, saying, "We are aware that Secretary Noem is visiting the Portland area. Although the City received notice of her visit, we do not have full details about her agenda.

"In the interest of public safety, Portland Police will provide the same routine support they would for any visiting dignitary. This protects our community, by making sure our roads and public spaces stay safe.

"Consistent with Portland’s sanctuary city status, our local police will not support any federal immigration enforcement activities.

"We urge Portlanders to continue to remain safe. Recent court decisions have affirmed that Portland does not need federal military intervention, and that our local public-safety approach stands on firm legal ground."
