Dr. Michael Egnor, a surgeon and medical school professor, has referred to these treatments “medical atrocity.”
“The Ottawa Hospital understands that trans and non-binary people often face barriers accessing gender-affirming care,” reads a news release. “Faced with long wait times or even lack of access in the communities where they live, they may struggle to achieve their gender-affirming goals.”
The hospital says it “is here to help.”
Noting it is the first such facility in Ontario, the hospital news release describes how surgery is used to change the look of a face from masculine to feminine or vice-versa and how “top surgery” refers to cutting off a biological woman’s breasts or putting implants into a biological male.
“Bottom surgery” refers to castrating and removing a penis or creating an artificial penis or vagina from skin tissue found on other parts of the patient’s body, called phallosplasty to create the appearance of a penis on males, and vaginoplasty to create the appearance of a vagina. Neither of these created "organs" have the functionality of the origina.
The clinic’s co-founder is plastic surgeon Dr. Nicholas Cormier, whom the hospital reports “has some more wonderful news to share.”
“We’re currently accepting patient referrals from physicians,” Cormier is quoted as saying: “We’re ready to service Ottawa and the surrounding communities.”
"There’s just a massive gap in our health-care system for the treatment of the transgender population and people seeking gender-affirming care.”
Before these services were offered at the Ottawa Hospital, people had to go to Montreal to find a clinic that offered facial, top and bottom “transformations.”
Dr. Michael Egnor, a surgeon and medical school professor, has referred to these surgeries as a “medical atrocity” that he likens to lobotomies and eugenics theory that were once embraced by the medical establishment.
In an interview with The Federalist, Egnor, a pediatric neurosurgeon and professor at the Renaissance School of Medicine at Stony Brook University in New York, said it is “basically criminal” to advise children to have their bodies mutilated.
