An illegal gender-reveal party in South Etobicoke early yesterday morning ended in a bloody gunfight where over 80 shots were fired by various assailants, according to CP24.
The incident occurred around 4:30 am yesterday, at a rented location on 8th street near Lakeshore Boulevard West in the New Toronto area of Etobicoke. According to witnesses, groups were firing at each other from two or more cars as people were leaving the party.
One person claims he heard at least 80 rounds fired, and when the police got there, they ran out of plastic evidence bags with which to collect the spent shell casings strewn all over the area.
One man was injured seriously, and was rushed to hospital. He was treated for his injuries and released, and remains stable as of this writing.
Shootouts such as this one are becoming more and more common in the Greater Toronto Area, often with the exact same MO. Armed attackers show up in a car where they know their targets are going to be and open up on them.
The rented premises, which have an entrance in the middle of a deserted alleyway, have apparently been set up to operate as an illegal bar or “booze can” as it is known in the Toronto area. Neighbours have come forward to say that the place has been in operation for approximately one week.
Ward Councillor Mark Grimes has stated that the appropriate authorities have been contacted to enact appropriate legal measures against the owners of the premises, including the police and fire departments.
Etobicoke continues to experience a surge in violent and bizarre incidents in the year 2020.
