The parents of Oxford High School shooter Ethan Crumbley are having their own case delayed for their part in their offspring’s conduct and crimes.

According to the Daily Mail both sides had a need for procedural continuance in the courtroom, but it wasn’t without its share of dramatic moments.

Both the prosecution and the defense agreed to delay a hearing from December 22 to February 8 of next year that will determine whether or not the Crumbley parents will face trial.

The need for delay boils down to this, according to the outlet:

"McDonald said her office has thus far turned over 500 pages of discovery to the defense, and there were an additional 40 gigabytes of reports, witness statements and footage from the Oakland County Sheriff's Office pending review. McDonald then made the request to delay the preliminary exam until February, saying that the hearing will involve 15-20 witnesses and last 3-5 days."

It’s also said that it was a dramatic day for both James and Jennifer Crumbley. It’s reported that the husband mouthed "I love you" to his wife, and she acknowledged his affection in the couple’s first face-to-face reunion since their detainment on December 4.

Footage of the event was posted by local outlet Click on Detroit.

"We anticipate being ready to present the preliminary exam in February, your honor, and as the court knows these children, and families, these funerals have just recently concluded. The Prosecutor’s Office has a lot of work to do with a lot of the victims and the families and we do not think it’s in their best interest, or in the interest of justice, to do that during the holiday season," explained the case’s prosecutor as to why they’re delaying the court proceedings.

In the aftermath of the Oxford High School mass shooting, Michigan prosecutor Karen McDonald expressed early on how the situation called for charges against Crumbley’s parents. The fact that not only Ethan’s father bought the gun days before the tragedy, but also that the parents openly acknowledged their son’s interactions with the firearm, set the stage.

In an update to 15-year-old Ethan Crumbley’s case is that on Monday a request to transfer the teen to a juvenile facility was denied by the judge. The Oxford High Shooter suspect faces terrorism charges and four counts of first-degree murder amid last month’s tragedy.

The firearm involvement comes alongside the parents involvement with Crumbley’s disciplinary meetings at school concerning their child’s behavior, as well.

Altogether it’s what led to the involuntary manslaughter charges. The circumstances of cited parental "negligence" which caused the deaths of four students.

The apprehension of the Crumbley couple came after a brief manhunt alert was issued to the general public. Their bond is set at $500,000 USD apiece.
