A man from Pennsylvania has been sentenced to six years in prison for purchasing stolen body parts from a woman in Little Rock, Arkansas, as well as other individuals. The judge ruled that the convict will also be ordered to pay a $2,000 fine and have three years of supervised release.

43-year-old Jeremy Lee Pauley of Thompson, Pennsylvania, was sentenced in December on charges of conspiracy and interstate transportation of stolen property. He will serve the six years and then have three more years of supervised release.

The 38-year-old Arkansas woman, Candace Chapman Scott, who worked at a mortuary, had gotten in contact with Pauley on Facebook in order to sell him the body parts. According to the DOJ, Pauley had bought an array of body parts from Scott after linking up on a Facebook group called "oddities." Scott has since been sentenced to 15 years in prison.

"The remains included a skull, multiple brains, an arm, an ear, multiple lungs, multiple hearts, multiple breasts, a belly button, testicles, and other parts. During a search warrant executed at Scott’s Little Rock home, investigators found numerous stolen body parts that she admitted she transported in trash bags from her work. Scott received a total of $10,625 from the purchaser in Pennsylvania for the human remains," a DOJ press release said.

Pauley has also admitted to his role "in a nationwide network of individuals who bought and sold human remains stolen from Harvard Medical School and an Arkansas mortuary," the DOJ said.

“The trafficking of stolen human remains through the US Mail is a disturbing act that victimizes already grieving families while also creating a potentially hazardous situation for Postal employees and customers,” said Christopher Nielsen, the Inspector in Charge of the Philadelphia Division of the Postal Inspection Service. “I hope our efforts, and these sentencings, bring some amount of closure to those affected by this terrible crime.”

Pauley, after purchasing the body parts, would sell them to others for a profit.
