The 16-second dashcam clip showed a man sprinting down the street at around 11:30 pm being chased by a group of teenagers.
A user on X uploaded a dashcam video that showed a horrifying incident where a group of teenagers chased down and beat a man on the streets of Washington, DC. The footage captured the violent scene outside an apartment block at Buzzard Point in south DC.
The 16-second clip showed a man sprinting down the street at around 11:30 pm, pursued by three teenagers. A fourth teen then appeared from off-camera and attacked the man. Despite putting his hands up to defend himself and continuing to run, the man was relentlessly chased.
The victim managed to escape from three of the teens, but one continued to pursue him out of the dashcam's view. The teen then returned to the group, and they appeared celebratory before fleeing the scene.
Nick Baker, who shared the footage on X, said, “If the gentleman being chased sees this and needs the raw footage for a police report, please let me know.” Baker also spoke to FOX5, emphasizing the importance of public awareness about such incidents taking place in the city.
“I think it's important that everyone sees these things are going on,” Baker explained. “Such young people are the perpetrators so we can't be too loose on crime. We have to have some standards.” According to DC police, the victim did not file a report, but police conducted their own write-up after reviewing the footage.
Washington DC has experienced a surge in crime over the past few years. Violent crime soared in 2023, with armed robberies increasing by 67 percent, according to the Daily Mail. There has also been a 50 percent increase in homicides in the nation's capital since 2015.
