Perez Hilton hospitalized under psychiatric hold, family says he is communicating after self-harming on livestream

Leading up to the Tuesday night livestream in which celebrity blogger Perez Hilton was seen bloodied and holding a knife, appearing to cut himself countless times, Hilton opened up about feeling “overwhelmed” and “in a bit of a spiral.”

In a late June video, Hilton spoke on falling “off the wagon in every sense” while moving his family from Las Vegas to Miami. “I’m back. I went to the gym this morning for the first time in weeks,” Hilton said. “I also went to church today for the first time in weeks. I also read my bible today for the first time in weeks.” Hilton became vocal about his faith following an emergency surgery and life-threatening battle with sepsis that took place earlier in 2026.

"I was in a bit of a spiral because I was overwhelmed with our move to Miami, and I didn’t do these things that I know are good for me,” he added, saying that while he had been feeling “anxious,” he became “soothed” and “inspired” after his day of “work.”

Police responded to reports of a “suicide attempt” at Hilton’s Miami address on Tuesday night, with Hilton being transported to a local hospital. Emergency units were at the scene for roughly four hours, during which deputies decided to “tactically disengage” while monitoring the situation. Hilton, who is the father of three children, was home alone at the time.

The Miami-Dade Sheriff’s Office said of the decision to disengage, “In many incidents involving a person experiencing a mental health crisis or actively harming themselves, deputies prioritize de-escalation by creating time, distance, and opportunities for communication. Unless there is an immediate threat to others, slowing the situation and utilizing crisis intervention techniques can reduce the likelihood of a suicide-by-cop encounter and minimize the risk of injury to the individual, deputies, and the public.”

A source close to the situation told Fox News that Hilton was placed on a psychiatric hold under the Baker Act, and that the blogger had “wounds and cuts all over the place.” The source said, “He’s alive. He has superficial cuts all over the body.” Generally, a psychiatric hold lasts up to 72 hours.

In an update late Wednesday, Hilton’s family said he is able to communicate. "We have also been able to confirm that Perez is able to communicate, which has given our family hope,” the family said.
