Durham regional police say they were "outnumbered" when trying to break up a 2000 person party in the Whitby, Ontario.

Acting Sgt. George Tudos told CTV News that "Obviously, from the number of people that were at that party, we were outnumbered."

Tudos added that his department was "notified of this ongoing party and our officers attended to keep the peace and maintain order."

Police eventually managed to break up the large party which took place at a large house on Ashburn Road, between Brawley and Columbus roads.

Tudos said that the most of the people attending collaborated. However, one person was arrested for impaired driving and an ambulance had to be called for a drug overdose.

The party violated the gathering guidelines under the Reopening Ontario Act. Currently, outdoor gatherings in Ontario are limited to 100 people, meaning the attendance of this party was 20 times more than what is allowed.

No further charges have been laid, but an investigation is ongoing.
