Authorities have released a mugshot for the arrested and charged suspect of the Tampa, Florida shooting on Sunday that left 2 dead and injured 18 others. One of the deceased victims was a 14-year-old boy.
Tyrell Stephen Phillips, 22, has been charged with second-degree murder and authorities say they are "looking at potential other shooters," according to the New York Post.
According to police, a fight broke out between two groups in the Ybor City neighborhood around 3 a.m. which sparked gunfire. Two individuals, ages 14 and 20, were shot and killed while 18 others were injured. Out of the wounded, 16 were hospitalized. Authorities said 5 of the wounded remain in the hospital.
The popular neighborhood, which features nightlife activities like bars and clubs, was flooded with people dressed in costumes for Halloween celebrations at the time of the shooting.
Video footage shows people in costumes drinking and talking outside along the strip when gunshots erupted. People ran to safety and hid behind makeshift barricades while victims fell to the ground.
Tampa Police Chief Lee Bercaw said officers were able to arrest Phillips after being tipped off, according to the outlet.
"We make arrests quickly and with a sense of urgency. If you commit a crime in Tampa, you are going to pay for it and you are going to be charged," he said.
Emmitt Wilson, the father of the 14-year-old victim Elijah Jaquan Wilson, told WFLA: I have lost my son, I have lost a second son to gun violence. In 2014, I lost my child. Now here it is, 2023, and my baby boy, he's gone now from gun violence."
