Ontario Premier Doug Ford made a public plea on Sunday, asking Ontarians to "please go get a test" after the province fell short of its testing target for the seventh consecutive day.
"I am here to ask for your help today," Ford said on Sunday.
"If you feel you need a test, you'll be able to get a test. So please don't wait."
The announcement comes as Ontario has confirmed 460 new cases of COVID-19 on Sunday, marking the new highest COVID-19 case count since May 8.
The province processed 11,383 tests on Saturday out of the 16,000 daily benchmark.
New testing protocols began Saturday, with asymptomatic front-line healthcare workers being tested all across the province.
The province is set to begin a second round of testing in long-term care facilities, which have been the hardest hit place by the pandemic.
The province now has a total of 25,500 cases, which includes 19,477 resolved cases and 2,073 deaths.
However, a count CBC News put the current toll at around 2,140 deaths.
The rise in cases represents 1.8 percent increase over Saturday's total, and the daily growth rate has been between 1.5 and 1.9 percent over the last 14 days.
Meanwhile, city officials in Toronto have expressed concern with the behavior of people flooding a downtown park on Saturday, which may risk a second surge in the coronavirus cases.
