Donald Trump’s brother, Robert Trump, has died a day after the President visited him in a New York hospital.

President Trump made a statement that the 72-year-old passed away on Saturday night, writing: “It is with heavy heart I share that my wonderful brother, Robert, peacefully passed away tonight.”

“He was not just my brother, he was my best friend. He will be greatly missed, but we will meet again. His memory will live on in my heart forever. Robert, I love you. Rest in peace.”

Trump was seen visiting New York Presbyterian Weill Cornell Medical Center in Lennox Hill on Friday.

Robert’s death came one day after President Trump visited him in New York, where he was hospitalized for a serious condition. The nature of his illness has not been disclosed.

Robert was admitted to hospital earlier this week and described as “very ill.”

In a White House press briefing on Saturday afternoon, Trump said his brother was “having a hard time” but did not elaborate. Trump had been previously scheduled to travel to his country club in Bedminster, New Jersey over the weekend, but he stopped by the New York hospital to visit his young sibling.

Robert S. Trump was the youngest of five Trump siblings. He was a real estate developer who managed the Trump Organization's real estate holdings outside Manhattan, and was on the board of directors of the game publishing company ZeniMax, which publishes the Elder Scrolls, DOOM and Fallout series of video games.

He was previously hospitalized for ten days at New York’s Mount Sinai Hospital in June.
