A quadruple amputee who plays cornhole professionally is facing murder charges after allegedly shooting a man to death and driving away during an argument in La Plata, Maryland on Sunday.

The Charles County Sheriff’s Office said that 27-year-old Dayton James Webber fatally shot the front-seat passenger, identified as 27-year-old Bradrick Michael Wells, of Waldorf, in Webber's vehicle during an argument. Webber allegedly requested that his two backseat passengers help him remove the body. They refused, got out of Webber’s vehicle, and flagged down the police at around 10:25 pm. Webber reportedly fled in the vehicle.

Two hours later, a resident in Charlotte Hall, Maryland called 911 to report a body in their yard. Officers responded to the scene and pronounced Wells dead. Authorities then obtained a warrant for Webber’s arrest. Webber’s car was later located in Charlottesville, Virginia, and Webber was found in a nearby hospital receiving medical treatment for an unspecified issue. He was arrested upon release from the hospital and charged as a fugitive from justice.

He is set to be extradited to Charles County, where he is facing first and second-degree murder charges. The sheriff’s office said Webber and the passengers in his car were known to each other.

Webber was featured on ESPN’s SportsCenter in 2023. At 10 months old, Webber suffered a bacterial infection, which resulted in his arms and legs being amputated. Webber was crowned the best cornhole player in Maryland in 2020.

The American Cornhole League addressed Webber’s arrest in a statement, writing, "the ACL is aware of the reports regarding allegations involving Dayton Webber. This is an extremely serious matter and our thoughts are with all those impacted, including the family and loved ones of Bradrick Michael Wells. At this time, this remains an active legal situation. We respect the judicial process and will not comment on specific allegations or details while proceedings are ongoing."

Per Fox 5, authorities have not explained how Webber, as a quadruple amputee, was able to fire a weapon or drive a car. An old YouTube account appearing to belong to Webber shows him firing rifles and handguns, as well as climbing a hunting tree stand.
