Newly released federal documents have revealed contradictions in the prime minister's official story revolving the WE scandal.

These documents were released as a result of the prime minister's controversial decision to prorogue parliament, effectively limiting the ability of parliamentary committees to consider the government's role in the WE scandal.

Not only did these documents reveal that the $900 million contract was suggested by the Trudeau government, but it also details early PMO pressure and the fact that the WE organization made clear their closeness to the prime minister when they lobbied for a contract, according to the Toronto Star.

The documents compiled emails, text messages and memorandums to officials within the Trudeau government. It seemed to show that there had been pressure from the PMO for civil servants to fulfill this contract.

One exchange between federal bureaucrats and WE employees shows that the charity included photos of Trudeau's family speaking at WE events. Some journalists have considered this proof that WE leveraged their relationship with Trudeau to get this contract.

Another Morneau staffer called the program a "shit show," yet supported the program anyway.

Having said all this, federal bureaucrats wrote in emails that they believed the only organization who could carry out this program was a third party, and that WE checked most boxes.
