Matt Gaetz from Florida was candid with a crowd of Britney Spears supporters today as the pop star underwent the latest courtroom fight in her battle for freedom of a conservatorship arrangement controlled by her father.

Gaetz said prisoners seemingly have more rights and opportunities than those in the likes of Britney’s situation.

According to TMZ, a few days ago Britney Spears was pursuing to hire a new lawyer in the case of removing her father from the conservatorship deal she’s been in for over a decade. Per Deadline the popstar managed to acquire a new lawyer, Matthew Rosengart, who almost immediately after officially coming onboard started filing paperwork on Britney’s behalf.

It's a situation Britney recently described as abusive.

Florida Rep. Matt Gaetz joined a crowd of Britney’s supporters today outside the Los Angeles courthouse where the newest conservatorship meeting took place.

“If this case does not result in freedom for Britney Spears, it is a black eye for the American justice system,” the congressman told the crowd.

In a plea for bipartisan agreement, Gaetz called Britney’s father Jamie a “dick.”

He believes Britney can make her own decisions. Which is why he and others in Congress previously invited the pop star to Washington to speak candidly about her situation.

Rep. Matt Gaetz outlined the legislative hurdles at today’s rally.

“It would be nice if some of my colleagues in Congress would actually step forward and join our bipartisan effort to create a federal cause of action for people who are constrained of their liberty through guardianship and conservatorship. In fact even people in prison can open a federal courthouse door to get relief under a habeas corpus action. But there’s no such relief for people who are wards in guardianship or conservatorship. This is a big issue in Florida, a big issue in California, and I’m hoping more and more members of Congress will step forward.”

The interviewer grilled Gaetz on further exacts. He responded.

“We need Nancy Pelosi and some of our Democrat friends to actually make it a priority. When I went to the chairman of the Judiciary Committee and said we ought to work together on these issues, he said ‘ahhh well this isn’t really a priority. We don’t have to worry about that.’ And I think when you see this type of popular support for reform? When you see people so deeply moved by the abuse that happened to Britney Spears? It should animate the Congress to greater action.”

Matt Gaetz finishes off by reiterating that Democrats do not want to work with Republicans on the matter.

Former Backstreet Boys stars AJ McClean and Nick Carter voiced their support for the pop star earlier today. They aren’t the only ones who have spoken out recently. In late June, Rose McGowan made a spontaneous appearance on Tucker Carlson in defense of Britney’s conservatorship battle.

In a round-up by Billboard her supporters include: Jamie Lynn Spears, Justin Timberlake, Kevin Federline, Christina Aguilera, Mariah Carey, Halsey, Madonna, Cher, Dionne Warwick, Missy Elliott, Iggy Azalea, Miley Cyrus, Liz Phair, Rina Sawayama, Brandy, Meghan McCain, Tinashe, Jameela Jamil, Bella Thorne, Khloe Kardashian, Jesse Taylor Ferguson, Nicole "Snooki" Polizzi, and Kaitlyn Bristowe.

Among countless others.

It was at the beginning of this month that a judge denied Britney Spears’s request to remove her dad as conservator of her estate. It was during heartbreaking testimony last month that Britney Spears testified that her conservatorship doesn’t allow her to have more children.
