The association, which has steered away from other America First candidates, has thrown its support behind Robinson after his win.
The Republican Governors Association (RGA) is throwing their support behind Mark Robinson, the winner of the North Carolina Republican primary for governor.
The newfound support is a turn from what had been occurring during the midterms, Politico reported.
When many America First candidates entered gubernatorial races aligned with former President Donald Trump, the RGA was less than thrilled about having to support the candidates. RGA initially left Pennsylvania's Doug Mastriano out to dry and then after his primary victory, made a statement, saying, "The RGA remains committed to engaging in competitive gubernatorial contests where our support can have an impact."
On the other hand, when Mark Robinson ran away with the primary in North Carolina, the RGA did not hesitate to applaud his win.
“From investing in safe neighborhoods to driving economic prosperity, Mark Robinson will put the people of North Carolina first,” RGA Chair Bill Lee said. “The RGA congratulates Mark Robinson on his win and we look forward to supporting him in the general election.”
Robinson ran away with the win despite over one million dollars in attack ad spending towards him by a Republican primary opponent. According to Politico, Democrats are also wanting to pounce on Robinson.
Morgan Jackson, a senior advisor to Democratic Attorney General Josh Stein, who won his primary tonight, told the outlet, "Robinson is an abortion-banning, election denying, social media conspiracy theorist and come November every voter in the state will know exactly who the real Mark Robinson is."
Robinson, however, has had plenty of support in the lead-up to the gubernatorial election, including a glowing endorsement from former President Donald Trump.
