Rita Hart withdraws contest against 2020 Iowa congress election results

Kevin McCarthy and Rep. Miller-Meeks visited the state earlier today to rally support.

It was roughly 100 days ago when Democrat Rita Hart filed their challenge in the Iowa House race. She lost to Republican Mariannette Miller-Meeks by just six votes. So when filing her official challenge, the “22 lawful ballots” cited by Hart’s campaign as having discovered not being counted would’ve made the difference.

In part, it says “After many conversations with people I trust about the future of this contest, I have made the decision to withdraw my contest before the House Committee on Administration. Since Election Day, and throughout this entire process, my mission has been about ensuring the voices of Iowans who followed the law are not silenced. I am saddened that some Iowans’ votes will not count through no fault of their own. The work of ensuring it does not happen again will continue beyond this campaign.”

Hart’s statement blames “political disinformation” for sabotaging the review process. What she’s indirectly referencing is today’s visit to Iowa made by Republican Leader Kevin KcCarthy and Rep. Miller-Meeks.

McCarthy accused Nancy Pelosi of wanting to steal the seat. His argument heavily referenced respecting the electoral process.

Earlier this month Speaker Pelosi told the media she was willing to scrutinize election results when it’s the Democrat on the losing end of the fight. Then last week she claimed to have the ultimate authority when it came to who sits in the House of Representatives, even if it went against election certification.
