A Secret Service agent was robbed at gunpoint in Los Angeles on Saturday night while returning from an assignment in California. That evening, President Joe Biden attended a fundraising gala alongside his wife, Jill, and Barack Obama, though it was not revealed to whose security detail the agent belonged.

The agent was not injured, and some of their belongings were later found in the area. They fired a shot at the suspect, however the alleged robber's condition is unknown as they fled the scene, and have not yet been apprehended.

According to the Tustin Police Department, the incident took place shortly after 9:30pm at the Tustin Fields I residential community. When officers arrived, they discovered that the victim was a Secret Service agent, and that the thief had made off with his bag.

"During the incident an officer(agent) involved shooting occurred," the TPD continued. "The suspect(s) were not located ad it is unknown at this time whether the suspect(s) were injured as a result of the incident." The force claimed that the robber presented "no known threat to the public."

The alleged perpetrator drove off in what was described as a silver Infiniti FX35 or similar, estimated to be from 2004-2006.

In a statement, per the Washington Post, Secret Service spokesperson Anthony Guglielmi explained that the agent had been "returning from a work assignment" when the robbery occurred. He confirmed that, "the employee discharged their service weapon during the incident but unknown if the assailants were struck."

The fundraiser was attended not only by the Bidens and Obama, but a number of Hollywood celebrities as well. During the event, Biden claimed Donald Trump would "get rid of" all the "progress" Democrats have made, should he win in November. The evening brought in around $28 million for the president's reelection campaign.
