Hunter Biden under fire for lying on gun background check, getting secret service help

It was in 2018 that the secret service intervened in an investigation into Hunter Biden for losing a gun (that he obtained through lying on a background check) and not reporting it.

Hunter responded "no" to a question on the transaction record that asks, “Are you an unlawful user of, or addicted to, marijuana or any depressant, stimulant, narcotic drug, or any other controlled substance?" Just five years earlier he was discharged from the Navy Reserve after testing positive for cocaine. Family members had also spoken about the troubles Hunter had with drugs. Lying on the background check is a felony.

Hunter's then girlfriend and brother's widow Hallie Biden had found the gun, was concerned he would use it to harm himself, and threw it out in a public trash bin. Upon revealing to Biden what she'd done, he told her to go get it—but it was gone.

Hallie and Hunter reported the missing .38 revolver to the manager of the grocery store into which trash bin she had chucked it, and that manager called police. The FBI arrived to interview both Hunter and Hallie. Hunter claimed that two of those who worked at the story were "suspicious" and "prolly illegal," according to the Daily Mail.

During questioning, and officer asked Hunter if the gun had been used in a crime, or if Hunter had been intoxicated. "Listen, it isn't like that," Hunter reportedly replied. "I think she believes I was going to kill myself."

This had been Hallie's concern upon finding the weapon in Biden's truck, which led her to attempt to dispose of it in the garbage bin of a supermarket.

Secret Service agents then went to the shop where Hunter had purchased the gun, and demanded the sale records. The shop owner, Ron Palmieri, refused to hand them over, saying that if the gun had been used in a crime, he did not want those records to be obfuscated.

It wasn't long, however, before the gun was recovered, turned in by a man who had found it while going through the trash. There were no charges filed.

Hunter Biden has been a source of controversy for his father, President Joe Biden, due to his publicly known drug-use, affairs, and shady business dealings. His laptop, abandoned to a Delaware computer repair shop, led to allegations that now-President Biden had been aware of, and involved in, his son's international affairs.
