"He's got a great message. He's a great messenger, and so I think he would be a great US Senator."
Sen. Rick Scott (R-FL) told The Ari Hoffman Show on Talk Radio 570 KVI, “I think Vivek would be a great pick… he's got a great message. He's a great messenger, and so I think he would be a great US Senator."
Scott, who served on the Senate Republican campaign committee, added, “He would hit the ground running.” After former President Donald Trump revealed his choice of Vance for his running mate, speculation began over who might take Vance's place representing Ohio in the Senate. Ramaswamy currently lives in Ohio.
Ramaswamy told Fox News on Tuesday at the Republican National Convention, "If I was asked to serve, I would consider it. Absolutely.”
Ramaswamy added, "Running for president wasn’t something I thought I was going to be doing. In the moment that we’re in, I’m called to do what I think will allow me to have the maximum impact on saving the country. And if I was asked to serve, yes I would strongly consider it out of my sense of obligation to the country."
Vance was elected to the Senate in 2022. He isn't up for re-election until 2028. However, if he and Trump are victorious in November, Ohio’s Republican Gov. Mike DeWine will be charged with appointing a replacement.
When asked if he has spoken to DeWine about the possibility, Ramaswamy told Fox News, "I have not yet."
He added that Vance will be leaving "very big shoes to fill and it’s important that the right person actually take that mantle on."
