All Republicans voted in favor on Saturday, aside from Sens. Thom Tillis (R-NC) and Rand Paul (R-KY), to advance the bill.
After hours of negotiations on Saturday, and the vote standing at 47 in favor and 50 opposed to voting in favor of proceeding with the package, Sens. Mike Lee (R-UT), Rick Scott (R-FL), and Cynthia Lummis (R-WY) voted in favor of the bill, and Sen. Ron Johnson (R-WI) switched his initial vote of opposition to being in favor, which will move the package along with the legislative process.
The chamber will now have 20 hours of debate, evenly split between the GOP and Senate Democrats ahead of the Friday deadline, according to Fox News. The Democrats will likely use up all of the time available to them, while not as many GOP lawmakers will debate the bill.
Trump wrote after the Saturday vote, "Tonight we saw a GREAT VICTORY in the Senate with the 'GREAT, BIG, BEAUTIFUL BILL,' but, it wouldn’t have happened without the Fantastic Work of Senator Rick Scott, Senator Mike Lee, Senator Ron Johnson, and Senator Cynthia Lummis. They, along with all of the other Republican Patriots who voted for the Bill, are people who truly love our Country!"
"As President of the USA, I am proud of them all, and look forward to working with them to GROW OUR ECONOMY, REDUCE WASTEFUL SPENDING, SECURE OUR BORDER, FIGHT FOR OUR MILITARY/VETS, ENSURE THAT OUR MEDICAID SYSTEM HELPS THOSE WHO TRULY NEED IT, PROTECT OUR SECOND AMENDMENT, AND SO MUCH MORE. GOD BLESS AMERICA &, MAKE AMERICA GREAT AGAIN!!!" he added.
All other Republicans voted in favor, aside from Sens. Thom Tillis (R-NC) and Rand Paul (R-KY), who voted in opposition to the bill along with all the Democrat senators. Following the vote, Senate Minority Leader Chuck Schumer (D-NY) used a procedural rule in order to have the clerk read the nearly 1,000-page bill out loud as a delay tactic.
The package has many of Trump's agenda items, including the implementation of no tax on tips, overtime, and the extension of the 2017 Trump tax cuts. A number of other Trump agenda items will also be included, despite some being removed by the Senate parliamentarian last week.
