Independent MP Derek Sloan condemned the Trudeau Liberal’s "extreme infringements" on the personal rights and liberties amid calls for a federal vaccine mandate.

Sloan took exception with the comments made by the prime minister, who said cracking down on unvaccinated Canadians was an election issue. "He said that not only was he going to force... federal employees to get vaccinated, he said that anyone who wants to go on an airplane [or travel by train] would need to be vaccinated."

"We are requiring federally-regulated employers to adjust their rules to ensure a mandate is imposed by no later than the end of October,” said Transportation Minister Omar Alghabra on Friday. "We will be working with employers on defining the new regulatory framework to ensure all employees and a number of travellers will be vaccinated by no later than the end of October."

Sloan said this policy objective was an "absolute disgrace."

According to the federal Privacy Commissioner, the compulsory disclosure of personal medical information to access public services is a breach of the Privacy Act.

A re-elected Liberal cabinet would draft regulations banning unvaccinated travellers from domestic flights and VIA Rail trains by October 31, according to Alghabra.

Sloan then cited what was permissible "medical experiments" under the Nuremberg Trials following WWII. The importance of consent is mentioned, adding "it shouldn’t be purchased at a price."

"People shouldn’t have to say yes, only because they’re losing their job if they say no. They shouldn’t say yes, only after having their arm twisted so far."

"This is not... informed consent," clarified Sloan. "The [COVID] vaccine that we’re talking about here was developed on an expedited time frame because people were concerned by COVID-19, but it’s still in long-term trials."

An Angus Reid poll found "increasing tension between the vaccinated and the unvaccinated." With a higher propensity of those now sick likely to be unvaccinated, patience among the vaccinated is running out, according to the institute.

Overall, three-quarters of Canadians have "no sympathy" for unvaccinated individuals who contract COVID-19. This rises to 83 per cent among fully vaccinated Canadians.

"[Trudeau] knows that this is a divisive issue… and it is extraordinarily unacceptable that we’re not seeing any pushback from the other parties," said Sloan, who admitted Conservative leader Erin O’Toole opposed mandatory vaccination after being asked "over and over again."

"But, he’s certainly no champion [against this]," he said.

Sixty-six percent of Conservative Party supporters said they had "no sympathy" for people who choose not to be vaccinated and then got ill. That rises to 80 percent and 87 percent to the federal NDP and Liberals, respectively.

Sloan maintained he respects the choices of Canadians to either get the vaccine or abstain, but continued, "there is no medical reason why we need to force every man, woman, and child to get vaccinated."

"If you infringe on someone’s Charter rights, there has to be a rationale for that with minimal impairment."

Approximately 62 percent of Canadians have received two doses of a government-approved vaccine, with half-a-percent partially vaccinated as of publication time on Wednesday.

Canada’s largest union openly rejected calls to discipline or terminate its members over their vaccination status. They clarified on Tuesday that accommodations must be made.

PSAC said if there are workers who are unable or unwilling to be vaccinated, the government must temporarily reassign those employees to other duties where possible, or allow for alternate work arrangements such as remote work."
