The rapper Snoop Dogg recently revealed that his views about former President Donald Trump have changed and that he has "nothing but love" for him.
In an interview with The Times, the rapper said, "He ain’t done nothing wrong to me. He has done only great things for me. He pardoned Michael Harris." He added, "So I have nothing but love and respect for Donald Trump.”
Harris was the co-founder of Snoop Dogg's first record label, Death Row Records. According to the Daily Mail, he had served 30 years of a 25-year-to-life sentence for conspiracy to commit first-degree murder, before Trump commuted his sentence in January 2021.
In the interview, the rapper hinted at possibly endorsing a candidate in the 2024 election like he did in 2012. "I might have to," Snoop said. "Because there are mixed views on that, so I want to see what the people say …”
After Trump commuted Harris' sentence in 2021 the rapper praised the work Trump did as president. "That's great work for the president and his team on the way out," he said.
"They did some great work while they were in there and they did some great work on their way out. Let them know that I love what they did," Snoop continued. "It is amazing what the work of God can actually bring to life to make people understand that there is a God."
Before that Snoop Dogg had been an outspoken critic of Trump. In 2017, he went as far as to perform a fake assassination of a Donald Trump look-alike with a clown mask on in a music video.
"I feel like it's a lot of people making cool records, having fun, partying, but nobody's dealing with the real issue with this f**king clown as president," he said at the time. "and the sh** that we dealing with out here, so I wanted to take time out to push pause on a party record and make one of these records for the time being."
In 2011, before Trump began running for president, the rapper made a joke about him potentially running for office against former President Obama. "Why not? It wouldn't be the first time you'd pushed a black family out of their home," he said.
