On Monday, a 15-year-old girl was struck by a car and killed after jumping out of her mother's car in Harris County, Texas.

The vehicle was in motion at speed on Interstate 45 when the girl, posthumously identified as Maddison Taylor, opened the door and allegedly jumped out of the vehicle voluntarily.

A vehicle behind them struck the girl and then, instead of the driver getting out of the car and/or pulling over, he immediately drove off. The girl did not survive her injuries, and first responders pronounced her dead at the scene.

According to Global News, the girl was apparently arguing with her mother at the time when she jumped out of the fast-moving vehicle, as could be ascertained by Ed Gonzalez, the Harris County Sheriff.

"She didn’t really get to live her life. She didn’t get to go to prom. She didn’t even get to be in high school yet," said Denajah Love, a cousin of Taylor's. She went on to echo the sentiments of the rest of Taylors family, appealing to the driver who fled the scene after hitting Taylor:

"I get that it was not on purpose. It was an accident. But at least have the respect to wait there until the ambulance gets there or police get there."

Authorities are also searching for the driver of said vehicle, and would appreciate the help of the public if anybody has any information that may lead to locating this person.
