"I’ve got a billion dollars in my pocket to do it. I write the budget with Senator John Huffman. We have the money. We’re going to have about $6 billion in our budget for border security. We’ll buy it."
Texas Lt. Gov. Dan Patrick revealed that his state will bid on the border wall building materials being auctioned off by the Biden-Harris administration and give those materials to President-elect Donald Trump. "Joe Biden is now hauling off the border wall that’s been lying down for years and he wants to auction it off starting at $5 a piece. Message to the White House right now, I will bid on all of that wall and we will buy it in Texas and we will give it to Donald Trump," Patrick said to Fox News’ Laura Ingraham.
"So, I’m going to find out first thing in the morning where are we going to take the bid. I’ve got a billion dollars in my pocket to do it. I write the budget with Senator John Huffman. We have the money. We’re going to have about $6 billion in our budget for border security. We’ll buy it," he added.
A report on Thursday revealed that a government contractor has been transporting around half a mile of border wall materials per day at the request of the Biden-Harris administration. A border patrol agent said, "They are taking it from three stations: Nogales, Tuscon, and Three Points. The goal is to move all of it off the border before Christmas."
The most recent sale of unused border wall materials was on December 4, with bidding on these portions of wall panels starting at just $5. The materials were left to sit idle after Biden took office and declined to continue the border security project.
Texas has made moves to secure its border, with the Texas Facilities Commission (TFC) announcing in November that as of the 15th of that month, 50 miles of border wall in the state had been completed. TFC Executive Director Mike Novak said "that the goal was to erect 50 miles of the wall by the end of the calendar year… that milestone could be achieved by Thanksgiving." He said that the TFC is working to fulfil the Texas Border Infrastructure Mission "to deliver a minimum of 100 miles of wall (Texas Border Wall) substantially complete by the end of calendar year 2026."
The state also announced the Jocelyn Initiative in late November, a program that will buy up land in Texas for use as detention centers.
