The Texas Department of Public Safety made the announcement today. “After extensive life-saving efforts conducted by the [Baylor Scott & White Health] medical professionals, it has been determined that Trooper Chad Walker no longer displays signs of viable brain activity and he remains on life-support until he can share the gift of life as an organ donor.”

"This final sacrifice embodies Trooper Walker’s actions throughout his life and service as a Texas Highway Patrol Trooper. The Walker family is grateful for the continued support and prayers as they remain at Chad’s side."

This news was shared this afternoon on the Texas House floor and a moment of silence marked the occasion.

According to local news reported by KXXV, last Friday evening DeArthur Pinson Jr. had shot DPS Trooper Chad Walker near Mexia, Texas. A manhunt went underway to search for Pinson after he fled the scene. They found the former military member dead by suicide at a residential location somewhere on Highway 84.

It all started when Trooper Walker stopped to assist (what he believed was a motorist) with their car. "Before Trooper Walker could stop his patrol unit [the suspect] immediately emerged from the driver’s seat of the disabled vehicle armed with a handgun and fired multiple rounds at Trooper Walker through the patrol unit’s windshield," according to the Officers association.

The Texas Fallen Officer Foundation is accepting donations on behalf of the Walker family. He will be survived by his wife, a 15-year-old son, twin seven-year-old daughters, and a two-month-old daughter.
