Some left-wing activist groups are suspected of funding the anti-ICE protests-turned-riots over the weekend. FBI Director Kash Patel has said that the law enforcement agency will be investigating all the funding as well as the groups that supported and organized the efforts.

"The FBI is investigating any and all monetary connections responsible for these riots," Patel told Just the News earlier this week. Over the weekend, after some initial peaceful anti-ICE protests, violence and riots erupted in downtown LA, with Waymo cars being burned, looting, violence targeted at police, and other criminality.

According to the outlet, one of the groups linked to the protests that occurred leading up to the violent riots is the Party for Socialism and Liberation (PSL), which is a Marxist group that has reported ties to the Chinese Communist Party. PSL has also been connected to many Gaza encampments on college campuses around the US.

One of the backers of PSL, China-based billionaire Neville Roy Singham, has been called to testify in front of Congress concerning his funding of the Marxist group. “If he refuses to appear, he will be subpoenaed, and if he ignores that he will be referred to the DOJ for prosecution,” said Rep. Anna Paulina Luna (R-FL) in a post to X.

Additionally, the Service Employees International Union (SEIU) is another group that was involved in organizing the radical demonstration, according to senior fellow at the Heritage Foundation Mike Gonzalez. The president of the SEIU's division in California David Huerta was arrested over the weekend on a felony charge of conspiracy to impede an officer. He is set to appear in court on Monday, according to CBS News.

The Coalition for Humane Immigrant Rights LA (CHIRLA) is also one of the groups that mobilized to oppose ICE in LA, according to the group's social media posts. Sen. Josh Hawley (R-MO) has launched an investigation into CHIRLA, writing in a letter that the group may have an "alleged role in financially and materially supporting" the anti-ICE protests and riots.

President Trump and others have said that the riots appeared to be funded and organized. Former Acting Deputy Secretary at the Department of Homeland Security Ken Cuccinelli appeared on Fox News this week, where he spoke about how a truckload of face shields were delivered to agitators in LA.

Cuccinelli said, "Peaceful protesters don't need masks, they don't need shields. They need them for combat, and the people paying for this are attempting to instigate and be catalysts for the combat. We've also seen that the number of busses coming into LA from out of town is very high. This has been noted locally, this isn't just a federal observation, and the circumstantial evidence strongly suggests, just as it did in 2020 substantial coordinated funding to be catalysts for violence in America's cities."
