Thornhill needs strong local representation

"Conservatives win when we embrace the grass roots and support the community's interests, not when we are beholden to corporate interests and political insiders."

My first political experience was a visit to a City of Vaughan council meeting to
ask about zoning concerns in my neighborhood in Thornhill over 15 years ago.
Since my training and career at the time was strictly Optometry related, I was
surprised to find myself as an in-demand spokesperson for municipal issues in
Thornhill. I quickly went from president of the local ratepayer’s association to
provincial conservative riding association president where we successfully lead a
team to take Thornhill from Liberal red to Conservative blue in quick succession:
First Provincially in 2007, then Federally in 2008.

When our provincial seat was suddenly vacated, I left my Optometry practice in
the capable hands of a recent Optometry graduate whom I had mentored over
several years and put my name forward to run in a 2014 by-election. Two more
elections followed making this my 7th year representing the amazing riding of
Thornhill!

You wouldn’t be wrong to suggest that my long standing team of volunteers and I
have worked together on issues relating to every level of politics: school districts,
municipal, regional, provincial and, yes - even federal. As the MPP for Thornhill I
was proud to be the driving force behind a motion where the Ontario legislature
denounced the biased BDS movement against the only democracy in the Middle
East, Israel. I have also worked with my federal colleagues to denounce the mistreatment of Yazidis by ISIS terrorists and denounced horrendous instances
of international hatred, intolerance and genocide.

I am proud of the multi-level political work I have done to represent Thornhill
residents, and I look forward to turning my focus to federal issues.

As a grassroots activist who has raised four children with my supportive husband, Dr. Jeff Martow, I understand the needs and concerns of our community. I have spent 15 years celebrating holidays and happy events with the many organizations and cultural groups that call Thornhill home.

Whether celebrating historic milestones or grieving a tragic loss, I am honoured
to have been able to stand side-by-side with the residents of Thornhill through
thick and thin.

When Thornhill was told to start looking for a Conservative candidate for the next
election, I received messages from many constituents urging me to put my name
on the ballot. Thornhill residents have a clear choice in the upcoming nomination
process: a three election winning MPP with a presence in the riding, ground
experience and dedication to the community, or a downtown political insider
under investigation for lobbying improprieties.

Conservatives win when we embrace the grass roots and support the community's interests, not when we are beholden to corporate interests and political insiders.

MPP Gila Martow represents the provincial electoral district of Thornhill in the Legislative Assembly of Ontario. On November 22, 2020, Martow announced her candidacy for the federal Conservative nomination in Thornhill.
