Three Houston Police Department officers were injured in the line of duty Thursday after they pursued a suspect armed with what appeared to be a fully automatic weapon in the city’s Third Ward area.

Police say the officers responded to the 2100 block of McGowen Street for a disturbance call and a vehicle chase ensued. The shootout was captured on social media from multiple angles, showing a suspect opening fire on a police vehicle with what local news outlets and law enforcement sources identified as a fully automatic firearm.

The suspect, identified as Roland Caballero, fled the scene after carjacking a white Mercedes Benz at gunpoint following the shootout. Surveillance video from ABC13 shows the suspect crashing his vehicle before opening fire on the officers.

Roland Caballero, who was identified as the man who opened fire on the officers following another chase. The chase ended aet a home in the 1800 block of Lockwood, where Caballero barricaded himself in the house for hours.

He was arrested at 7pm and taken to the hospital. Police said he suffered a gunshot wound to the neck.

The three officers who were shot at the first scene at McGowen Street were taken to hospital with non-life threatening injuries. One of the officers was shot in the arm, another in the leg, and the third was shot in the foot, Houston police say.

"I want everybody, all our leaders, no more excuses, everybody take an active role and get intentional and do whatever you can do to fight gun violence," said Houston Police Chief Troy Finner during a briefing Thursday evening. "It's not a difficult thing."

Finner’s remarks comes as this is the second police-involved shooting this week. Last weekend, Harris County Precinct 5 Constable Corporal Charles Galloway was shot and killed during an ambush attack at a routine traffic stop.

The suspected cop killer, Oscar Rosales, 51, was arrested on Wednesday by U.S. Marshals.
