A Toronto police officer who was charged on Tuesday for stunt and impaired driving made $140,738 in 2019 despite being charged with extortion last year.

Lionel Peters, 43, is alleged to have been 4 times over the legal limit when he was stopped by the police after driving at 179 km per hour. Peters has been suspended with pay.

Peters drove at this speed on Highway 407, close to the Burlington area in Ontario. The police have reported that this incident took place at 1:30 AM.

According to Ontario's sunshine list database, a man named Lionel Peters who works in the Municipalities & Services (which is the sector where police officers work) made $140,738.43 in 2019.

There is only one 'Lionel Peters' name in the entire database.

This fortune came to Peter's in spite of the fact that he was charged with extortion in May of last year. The CBC reported that Peters threatened a citizen over money they may have owed to a third-party.

Peters was off-duty when this incident occurred and reportedly drove directly to the citizen's home in order to confront them.

The OPP have reported that Peters had his driving license suspended for a period of 90 days and his vehicle impounded for a week.
