The Trudeau government is committing hundreds of millions in foreign aid. International Development Minister Karina Gould made the announcement of $485 million in new funding towards the global effort to provide COVID-19 vaccines to poor countries.

According to Canadian Press, the funds will be going to the Access to COVID-19 Tools, or “ACT Accelerator,” a program created by the World Health Organization. This program was created to ensure lower and middle-income nations have adequate access to the vaccine.

"The faster we can get tests, treatments and vaccines out to people, the sooner this pandemic can be contained. Canada's support of global efforts to find successful medical solutions is a win for all," said Gould in her statement.

This news comes as the Trudeau government announced $400 billion to be added to the national debt. Thus, many Canadians are seemingly upset with this contribution as the Canadian economy is spiraling into debt.
