The Trudeau government's inability to procure medical equipment during the pandemic has been labelled a "national embarrassment," according to Blacklock's Reporter.
As well as this, Members of Parliament have been complaining that despite the lack of medical equipment, they have not seen any data from the government concerning this shortage.
A spokesperson for the United Steelworkers organization said "It’s an embarrassment to this country. We can’t produce our own equipment to protect our front line workers, to protect our people?"
"What kind of a society are we talking about," asked the spokesperson. "The tragedy is, unfortunately we just had April the 28th which is the Day of Mourning where we mourn for the dead and fight for the living."
So far, it is unclear how many workers have gotten sick or even died from the lack of medical equipment.
Despite this serious concern, politicians have not received any data on national shortages, forcing another question on the Trudeau government's transparency.
The Trudeau government had to spend some $2 billion in order to bring in equipment. This came in reaction to the sudden realization that Canada had a dwindling medical stockpile, and did not prepare for a pandemic.
One Conservative MP addressed the issue, saying he had been "hearing concerns about the rationing of personal protective equipment and warnings about outright shortages in this country."
