The Trudeau government's failure to retain medical supplies before the pandemic struck Canada has cost the taxpayer some $1.8 billion.

This was revealed on Tuesday through the disclosure of top budget documents held by the government of Canada, according to Blacklock's Reporter.

The primary reason for this jaw-dropping figure has to do with the government purchasing Chinese equipment at 3 - 9 times the regular price. This comes in spite of repeated warnings that the government should stock up on equipment in case of a pandemic.

The government estimated that these marked-up costs for medical equipment set Canadians back $1,800,000,000—a number that is almost triple the size of the entire medial budget for 2019.

Despite these costs, officials have declared that "our government remains resilient."

Earlier in the year, government officials said that Canadians would not face excessive fees for purchasing the necessary medical equipment: "as we are in the midst of the response to this crisis, it is too early to speculate about total costs."

This, it turns out, is patently untrue, and Canadians will be paying for this mistake for decades to come.
