The Liberal Party's confidence-and-supply agreement with the NDP has some Conservative MPs sounding the alarm over implications of the pact, including veteran MP and Conservative leadership candidate Pierre Poilievre, who is calling the agreement a "socialist coalition."

"Justin Trudeau is an NDP prime minister. He bears no resemblance to fiscally-minded Liberals from a bygone era," tweeted Poilievre on Thursday.

Poilievre called the pact a "'socialist coalition' with the goal of push[ing] the most radical [and] extreme economic agenda, maybe ever, in Canadian history."

Poilievre expanded on these statements in an interview with the Toronto Sun, in which he said that Trudeau was "out of touch with the traditional Liberal approach."

"Well, there is an NDP cabinet minister, and his name is Justin Trudeau," Poilievre told the Sun "Let’s face it, he is an NDP prime minister. He is so out of touch with the traditional Liberal approach of the Chretien-Martin era."

Poilievre said that Trudeau's promises of increased spending and higher taxes show that he has drifted farther left than Liberals of the past would have found appropriate.

Trudeau announced the agreement earlier this week, saying that the agreement would help avoid "toxic partisanship" in the House.
