According to a new statement from the office of Justin Trudeau, the prime minister has "full confidence" in Finance Minister Bill Morneau—even after the bombshell testimony given to the Finance Committee on July 22.
“Minister Morneau played the lead role in the creation of the CERB, the wage subsidy, and many other measures to support Canadians and businesses during these difficult times, and he is continuing this important work. Of course the Prime Minister has full confidence in Minister Morneau and any statement to the contrary is false,” said the PMO on Tuesday.
“The Prime Minister knows that Minister Morneau and the entire team of cabinet ministers will keep doing the work that Canadians rely on to get them through this pandemic."
The statement seems to hint that there will not be a cabinet shuffle, as some had speculated.
WE Charity controversy began to haunt Morneau following his testimony to the Committee on Finance, where he revealed that he wrote the WE Charity a cheque for $41,366 to repay expenses from family vacations to Kenya and Ecuador just one day before he was to testify under oath.

Morneau said that he and his family did a review of their finances, and they had found that he had previously paid $52,000 in expenses towards the trips. Morneau continued to say, though, that to his "surprise," he was unable to locate receipts for the WE trips.
He and his wife had also made $100,000 in donations to the charity, all while his daughters were working with the charity.
