Prime Minister Justin Trudeau will be speaking virtually at a concert with guests such as Selena Gomez and Jennifer Lopez, according to The Canadian Press.

The event, titled "Global Citizen Vax Live Concert To Reunite The World," will take place on May 8 and be streamed live on YouTube.

Canada's fumbled vaccine rollout has led to the country being on the receiving end of criticism. Despite the country having one of the largest vaccine portfolios, the country has still had to dip into COVAX, a global vaccine sharing initiative designed to help poorer countries.

Development Minister Karina Gould was asked why Canada had dipped into a vaccine scheme designed primarily for the third world, to which she said" "Our top priority is to ensure Canadians have access to vaccines. ... Covax's objective is to provide vaccines for 20 percent of the populations of all member states, both self-financing and those who will receive donations.

"Canada made the decision, as other countries have, to take on this first allocation, because we recognize how important it is that all Canadians have access to vaccines."

Canada contributed $440 million to Covax in September 2020.
