On Thursday, Prime Minister Justin Trudeau united in public with Francois Legault, Quebec's Premier, and expounded on the possibility of vaccination requirements for federal employees.
"I've asked the Clerk of the Privy Council, who is responsible for the federal public service, to look at mandatory vaccinations for federal employees. And we're also looking at federally-regulated industries, to encourage or perhaps even to mandate vaccinations for those industries," stated the Prime Minister.
According to CTV News, the vaccine requirement for federal employees could go beyond just government offices themselves; it could possibly extend as far as federally-managed industries and public companies. This could include, for example, rail companies and airlines, as well as banks.
Trudeau continued: "It is time that the 80 per cent of Canadians who are doing their duty towards their neighbours, towards their loved ones by getting vaccinated, be able to get back more and more to normal, get back more and more to regular life. For that, those who are hesitant: It's time to get your vaccine. They're safe, they're effective."
The federal government has already recently acted to ease some travel requirements for the fully vaccinated, and has previously expressed support for the so-called "vaccine passports" to be implemented for general use in Canada.
