Trudeau's deputy accuses Pierre Poilievre of wearing more makeup than she does in retaliation for his call to ban hard drugs

"Mr. Speaker I'm sorry I withdraw that comment," Freeland said, before suggesting Poilievre was being "phony" in his crusade against hard drugs.

When Conservative Party of Canada leader Pierre Poilievre asked in Tuesday’s Question Period whether the Liberal government would support an Opposition motion to “permanently ban hard drugs” in Canada, Deputy Prime Minister Chrystia Freeland said Poilievere was wearing too much makeup.

Poilievere stated that the federal government “thinks that you pay down debt by borrowing more, but you stop inflation by printing money and that you fight the drug overdose crisis by legalizing hard drugs. So at least they're consistent in their irrationality."

“Mr. Speaker, but now they've been forced to backtrack right before the election on their legalization of hard drugs because Canadians are revolting against the policy,” Poilievere continued.

“Today we have a motion that will be voted in the House [of Commons] to permanently ban hard drugs. Will this government vote for that motion? Or will they admit that they plan to vote to legalize drugs again after the next election?”

“Mr. Speaker, the Conservative leader is wearing more makeup than I am,” Freeland responded to jeers and shouts from the Conservative benches.

House of Commons Speaker Greg Fergus had to halt proceedings when the furor did not subside and cautioned Freeland about her speech and asked her to “withdraw that comment. You don’t comment on the appearances of members,” he said.

“Mr. Speaker I'm sorry I withdraw that comment,” Freeland said, before suggesting Poilievre was being “phony” in his crusade against hard drugs.

It's hard for me to believe now that Freeland seemed to be a respectable and competent minister when Trudeau came to power. In the past few years, she's been as disappointing as the PM. Their exit can't come too soon.
